From: Fabian Knittel To: Cc: Subject: Eggheads: Eggdrop1.5.2 Date: Saturday, 5 February 2000 11:40 AM After alot of work on the rather hidden 1.5 CVS, eggdrop now has a bunch of new features. Before we release it as our new stable 1.6.x version we _must_ debug it extensively to ensure it will be as stable as possible when actually released. To ensure this, we will now start releasing 1.5.x versions for widespread public testing. Please note that we actually _expect_ it to still have a number of bugs; however, you can help in reducing that number by making sure you fill in detailed bug reports (including core information using the instructions supplied in the bug report form) to eggheads@eggheads.org. Having the results from gdb (the program used to process the core file) is probably one of the best ways for any user to help us fix a bug, short of fixing it themselves and sending us a patch file. Here's a list of the main new features included in the 1.5.x tree: + asynchronous dns module + !channel support + rewritten filesys module to support long filename lengths. + transfer supports long filenames too now. + new tcl commands: an 'md5' command, an asynch dns 'dnslookup' command and a new put{help|serv|quick} parameter '-next' + nick-len variable in the configuration file instead of hard-coded + penalty calculation for the IRCNet + enhanced share module which allows a new override-bots setting and a few more ... There are more details on these and other features included in the NEWS file that is now included with Eggdrop. In future 1.5.x releases we will attempt to fix the reported bugs and also include small new features. This will continue until we completely feature freeze and only concentrate on bug fixing. In 2 months or so, when all bugs are hopefully fixed, we will release it as 1.6.x and make that the new stable version, replacing 1.4.x. Here's the download information: ftp://ftp.eggheads.org/pub/eggdrop/GNU/beta/eggdrop1.5.2.tar.gz MD5 sum: 5e3217d9c58833ab469740c24b5c6fa3 * note: good users always check their md5sums :) Let's hope I didn't mess up anywhere ... Enjoy! :) Fabian (and guppy a little bit). _____________________________________________________ For unsubcribe information, visit: http://www.eggheads.org/mailman/listinfo/eggheads
