From: Jeff Fisher To: Subject: Eggheads: Eggdrop1.4.0 (which is actually 1.3.29 .. confusing eh?) Date: Wednesday, 10 November 1999 9:37 AM Go download Eggdrop v1.4.0 right now! or dont .. but you must read this e-mail over and over until you understand why Eggdrop v1.4.0 has been released .. k? In an attempt to follow the Linux kernel versioning system more closely we decided to rename Eggdrop v1.3.29 to v1.4.0 since even numbered minor versions are considred stable releases, and this is what this version is. This is how it works: - even numbered minor versions (1.4, 1.6, etc) are stable releases/versions - odd numbered minor versions (1.5 1.7, etc) are development trees So please dont be scared off by this version change like many people in the past were scared off from using v1.3 when it first came out (and heck people still are using v1.1.5 for reasons unknown). Every single Eggdev member I'm sure will agree with me that this is the best Eggdrop release ever put out -- if they dont ... no candy for them . There were over a hundred changes in this version alone .. many of which help Eggdrop compile better on more systems (irix, osf, lynx, etc ..) and help it detect TCL better (and the actual version number, 8.2.1 instead of 8.2). There has been a change in the way bots link which makes it more secure .. basically when v1.4 bots link together they never sent their password in cleartext. Also many more bug fixes and the odd new feature .. Want to see the UPDATES? - ftp://ftp.eggheads.org/pub/eggdrop/UPDATES1.4/UPDATES1.4.0 Want to get the file? - ftp://ftp.eggheads.org/pub/eggdrop/GNU/eggdrop1.4.0.tar.gz - MD5sum: 82979cb27e37b9868387f3a59d43811d Other points ... some of you may notice the lack of eggdrop versions in pub/eggdrop/GNU .. old releases are now being kept in the attic directory stop beginners from downloading old eggdrop versions (1.3.9 like soooo many do). So please dont email the list asking where they all went .. this is where they went :P~ Oh and to checkout this version on the CVS, please use eggdrop1.4 now instead of eggdrop1.3, and for the development tree, it is eggdrop1.5 .. HOWEVER .. make sure you start from a completely fresh tree .. if you have a eggdrop1.4 directory, DELETE IT before you do a checkout of eggdrop1.4.
